Contributors in Vågespel
Reidun Horvei is a storyteller and one of the scriptwriters of Vågespel. With deep roots in Norwegian folk singing and storytelling traditions, she has brought the stories of emigration to life through concerts, plays, and vivid narratives. She has traveled along the coast and inland, across the ocean to America, gathering voices from the past that whisper through time. She weaves together longing and dreams, everyday life and survival skills, painting a picture of the women who took the step across the ocean into the unknown.
Inger-Kristine Riber shapes the soundscape of Vågespel and has co-written the script of Vågespel. She builds a sonic world that amplifies the emotions within the stories, creating resonance between past and present, searching for tones that still linger in the walls of old houses. She understands how sound can awaken memories, how a musical motif can reflect hope or doubt, and how a simple piano accompaniment can carry a story straight to the heart. With her ability to craft harmonies, tones, and textures, she brings these narratives to life for the listener.
Ragnhild M. Gudbrandsen is a storyteller in Vågespel. Her voice carries through time and space, with an intimacy that makes one feel the breath of those who came before us. She has brought countless characters to life on stage, but here, she serves history—becoming a vessel for the women who once wrote home about their hardships and new lives. She infuses the storytelling with depth and power, making it not just heard, but felt.
Katherine Jane Hanson has contributed to the script development. Through her work, she knows how to read between the lines—what was left unsaid and what was crucial to put into words. Her insights have shed new light on the everyday lives and challenges these women faced.

The women who became the starting point for Vågespel
Everything in Vågespel began with these women. They appeared in the sources as delicate traces, and as we followed them, new stories opened — one after another. Here you’ll find biographical information about the women who formed the foundation of the project: lives that carried dreams, courage, and work across the ocean. Click the images to read.
